STEPPING UP, by Beth Moore

Beginning Sept. 18

Morning class @ 9:30 a.m. in Room E225

Evening class @ 6:30 p.m. in Room S201

This in-depth women's Bible study leads you through Psalms 120-134. This class will meet on Tuesdays with morning and evening class options. Sign up for childcare during registration. There is a $16 workbook fee.

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY - ISAIAH, CHAPTERS 1-39

9/11/18 - 9:30 a.m.

Room E225 - 8 wks

In this OneBook Daily-Weekly, Dr. John Oswalt leads us in an exploration of the first thirty-nine chapters of Isaiah's rich prophetic oracles. Here we discover the truth about God's holiness and the depth of our sin, but also the promising renewal that God is bringing to the entire creation. This study locates us in the story of God and offers us compelling reasons to put our hope in him. In addition, as we approach Christmas, we will also study the passages in Isaiah included in Handel’s “Messiah.”  Cost of the book is $15.

WOMEN OF JOY

This women's group meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. during the school year in room S203 and enjoys several types of Biblical studies. During the summer they meet once a month for mission projects and eating out. This summer they collected items for Christ Clinic, The Ballard House, and CAPS. Please join at any time!

EPIC OF EDEN: RUTH

8/29/18 - 6:30 p.m.

Room S210 - 10 wks

Set in one of the most corrupt eras of Israelite history, Ruth is a story about three compelling characters. Naomi is an elderly widow who has lost everything and returns to her homeland empty and bitter hoping simply to survive. Ruth is Naomi's young daughter-in-law, also a widow, and a foreigner, who at great personal cost refuses to let Naomi face the future alone. Boaz is the local patriarch—a man of wealth and influence who is given the opportunity to do the right thing, even though the right thing might not be the obvious thing. Participants in this study will be challenged as they see themselves in these characters and find themselves faced with many of the same questions and challenges. Cost of the book is $17.

Room S101 - 12 wks

This study, an adaptation of the original, bestselling Disciple Bible Study, provides a viable option for busy people seeking comprehensive engagement over time with the entire biblical text. Have you felt like the Bible was the one book you couldn’t figure out how to read?  Do you have trouble finding a specific Bible passage?  Or are you puzzled by how the loving Jesus revealed in the New Testament is the same God as the great “I AM” in the Old Testament? This Fast Track Disciple Bible Study on the Old Testament provides an opportunity to engage with the Bible in an accessible and life-changing manner. Participants will read three to five chapters of the Bible daily in preparation for the weekly meetings, which include a video presentation and discussion. Cost of the book is $16

LIVING AS A DISCIPLE: A SPIRITUAL GIFTS SHORT COURSE

8/29/18 - 6:30 p.m.

Room S209 - 4 wks

Paul tells us, "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work." (1 Corinthians 12:4-6) God has given each follower of Jesus spiritual gifts that are intended to be used in the Kingdom of God. And as each person enters the different seasons of their life, God calls them to a new purpose. This four-week course will help you discover what your spiritual gifts are and discern where God is (and is not) calling you to use these gifts. You will quickly learn to recognize the God-given promptings on your heart, as well as how you are uniquely equipped to bring God's love to a hurting world. No books to purchase.

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN / PAUL'S LETTERS TO THE EPHESIANS

9/5/18 - 12 wks each

6:30 p.m., Room E225

The Gospel of John will begin Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Paul's Letters to the Ephesians will start in January, 2019.

The Gospel of John

In this edition of the OneBook Daily-Weekly, noted New Testament scholar Dr. Ben Witherington III leads disciples on twelve-week study of the Gospel of John. With Witherington's incisive insight and compelling observations, learners will gain clarity on the powerful and practical ways of the Son of God. Through the process, students will grow in holy love, both for God and neighbor, by becoming better readers of Scripture and truer followers of Jesus. In this study, Dr. Fred Long takes learners through Paul’s grand vision of the Church as Christ’s body, a people called to be holy and blameless in love. As the political head of the church Body, Christ exemplifies virtue and the church aspires to grow to be like him in sacrificial love and service. Paul, as an ambassador of Christ in chains, depicts the church assembly as a holy temple filled with God, Christ, and the Spirit, and then stands firm wearing divine armor ready to withstand all evil forces and to spread the peace of the gospel of Christ to the whole world.

WHEN THE GAME IS OVER, IT ALL GOES BACK IN THE BOX

9/26/18 - 6:30 p.m.

Room S209 - 6 wks

In this thought-provoking study of what's really important in life, John Ortberg uses games as a metaphor to help us recognize and play for life's real prize: being rich toward God. Using humor and wisdom, Ortberg reminds us that everything on earth belongs to God, and everything we "win" is just on loan. The author makes sure we understand the object of the game, but he also walks us through the set-up, the rules, the strategies, and choosing the right trophies. This class will help you sort out what's fleeting and what's permanent in God's kingdom. It's the perfect playbook to help you consider life's true priorities and arrange your life with eternal prizes in mind. Childcare is provided. Workbook fee of $9.
